Exbourne, Sampford Courtenay & Jacobstowe WI -
The latest meeting was held in Sampford Courtenay village hall on April 6. Everyone was welcomed and Jerusalem was sung. The speaker was Debbie Hastings, who has held many horticultural postions during her career. These included Head Gardener at Dulwich College and Birbeck College. She gave a presentation on Victorian Gardens, explaining how the wealthy developed gardens with cheap labour and the many plants that were being imported.
After tea and biscuits the business was dealt with.
The Coffee Morning held in Old Schools, Hatherleigh had raised £220. It was decided that at the next Coffee Morning in October, there should be more savoury items and not as much bric-a-brac.
The first meeting to arrange the Okehampton Show entry is to be held on April 20 at Ethel Nancekivell's.
The Exbourne Neighbourhood Plan Consultation Day is on May 6 in the village hall and the WI has been asked to supply tea/coffee and biscuits. Margaret Hawkins, Annie Warren, Ann Langworthy and Ann Leaman volunteered to carry this out.
There are to be joint captains for the skittles team next season. They are Ann Langworthy and Shirley KIng.
The next walk is at the Fox and Hounds, Bridestowe on April 28.
The winner of the Flower of the Month was Margaret Rook and Margaret Cleveland won the competition for a piece of Victorian memorabilia.
The next meeting is in Exbourne village hall on Thursday May 11 at 7.30pm and will be the Annual Meeting.
