The Distinctiveness of Devon - May 18
Hatherleigh Gardening Club Traditionally, May is a busy time both in the gardens and for the club, and this year is no exception. You have already noted, in BOLD CAPITALS in your diaries, that Saturday, May 6th is THE Plant Sale. There will be bargains galore to be had, from shrubs and perennials to annuals and veg. plants, all to be found in the square (fingers crossed for the weather) with teas, raffle and more tender plants in Old Schools. You have always supported this, our main fundraiser, very well and we hope you will again this year; without competition from RHS Rosemoor, maybe there will be a few more people about. Sales will start at 9.30; we are always so busy setting up before that so please bear with us - you can look but you can't touch!! On Thursday, 18th of May, as you may well have read elsewhere, there is a joint meeting with the History Society when Dr Todd Gray, an excellent speaker by all accounts, will talk about 'The Distinctiveness of Devon'. This meeting will be at 7.30pm in Old Schools. Our Coffee Mornings to raise money for Devon Air Ambulance have been highly successful in the past, resulting in our being able to send them thousands of pounds over the years and all thanks to the tremendous support from you all. This year's effort will be on Tuesday, 23rd May, in Old Schools of course, with a raffle, cake stall and the usual coffees & cake, with maybe a few plants thrown in! We look forward to seeing you there from 9am onwards. And finally, and a treat for ourselves now, we shall be making an affiliated society visit to Rosemoor on Friday, 26th, rendezvousing outside the front doors at 11am. If anyone would like to join us for this trip, please let me know. Susan Gill 01837 810893 email 47gills@gmail.com
