History Society - January 9
At the November meeting we had the pleasure of welcoming Sophie McCormack from Beaford Arts ?Hidden Histories Project? together with David Lane, a playwright, who is working alongside this project with regard to the Oral History being collected. Sophie explained how digitalizing the thousands of photographs now made available from the James Ravilious collection are being processed and the original photos are being preserved and catalogued. Many of the people and places that appear in these photos have been named but there is still a long way to go. Interviews with older residents of the North Devon villages that appear in so many of James Ravilious`s photographs are invaluable in recording events of rural life and the characters of those times. David Lane will be running a Creative Writing Workshop here in Hatherleigh on the 11th December (see notice on Hatherleigh website and in Pump) There is no meeting in December but we wish all our members and friends and guests `Seasons Greetings` and hope to see you at the next meeting on January 9th 2018 when the speaker will be Monica Jones who will be giving an update on the ?WW1 Project? as well as discussing ideas for the Centenary Commemoration in November 2018.
