Exbourne Local History Group - November 20 

The latest meeting of the Exbourne Local History Group was held on Tuesday October 16. The speaker was Paul Martin BVSC, who has recently retired after 36 years at North Park Veterinary Group, North Tawton. He gave a very interesting and sometimes very humerous talk on his life as a vet. Paul covered all the changes he had seen, in respect to the changes in veterinary work, from mostly farm animals to now more small animals. He also explained his views on the Foot and Mouth epidemic and the present TB contraversy. He was thanked by Brian Butcher. The next meeting is on Tuesday November 20, when the speaker will be Ciaran Stoker talking about ‘Belgian Refugees in WWI Devon’. Everyone welcome. Location EX20 2RY

Sampford Courtenay Flower Club Workshop - November 26 

The next meeting of Sampford Courtenay Flower Club is on Monday 12th Nov in Sampford Courtenay Village Hall at 2.30pm. Our demonstrater is Pat Penno from Launceston. Her talk is entitled ‘Preparing for Christmas’, so why not come along and start to get in the Christmas mood? Guests are always welcome to join our relaxed and friendly club. Also in November we are running a WORKSHOP in Sampford Courtenay Village Hall to make a Christmas door wreath and table decoration. This is EXTRA to our monthly meeting and will be a hands-on practical workshop. It is from 1pm til 4pm on Monday 26th November. The cost is £8 to include all materials and tea and minced pies. AGM Potboilers - November 28 

The Annual General Meeting of The Hatherleigh Moor Management Committee will be held on Wednesday November 28th 2018, in The Old Schools, at 7.30 pm. Potboilers are invited to attend from 7.00 pm when a Revised Version of the Constitution and Rules of The Hatherleigh Moor Potboilers will be made available, together with other Annual Documentation. Okehampton U3A Meeting - November 29 

The Art of the Devon Garden Dr. Todd Gray MBE Dr. Gray’s talk provides a fresh and innovative approach to the garden history of Devon. In his research his study comprised over 600 historical images, some created in glass, pottery, fabric, wood and stone as well as those on paper and canvas.. The period covered is from 1200 to the present day and the result is a visual history of Devon Gardens. Location EX20 1AR

Light Up a Life this Christmas - December 8 

Light a candle in memory of your loved ones at our special services that take place across North Devon, including in your own community. These services are open to everyone and you will receive a warm welcome. Please be aware that you do not have to have been supported by either hospice to attend a service. Celebrating Culm Grassland - December 11 

You are invited to come and enjoy an informative, relaxed evening celebrating Devon’s amazing Culm grassland habitat. Culm grassland is on your doorstep at Hatherleigh Moor and Meeth Quarry Nature Reserve, as well as many private farms. This natural grassland supports a wealth of wildlife and is home to some rare and beautiful species. Culm grassland benefits from traditional farming methods, however 92% of Culm grassland has been lost in the past 100 years, with a 48% loss between 1984 and 1991. Find out how Devon Wildlife Trust are working, with landowners and volunteers, to protect and restore Culm grassland, where you can visit this habitat, what you might see, and how it is best managed for wildlife and species diversity. Hatherleigh Parish Church Coffee Morning - December 11 

You may have noticed that the flags on the church flag pole are sadly looking past their best, fraying so much that the Union Flag needed a quick trim before Remembrance Sunday - still it frayed even more. So some of the money from the coffee morning will be going to replace these flags. Also there will be our Christmas Raffle with wonderful prizes - food hampers, Christmas drinks hamper, toiletries and maybe one or two others - pop in and see what they are, buy a few tickets it may be your lucky year. The Okehampton and District Local History Society meets each month on the second Wednesday at 7.30pm in The Ockment Centre in North Street. ON12th Sept. the speaker will be Elly Babbage on The Bidlakes of Bridstowe On 10th Oct. The speaker will be Bill Horner, County Archeologist, on Rome’s roads lead to Okehampton. On 14th Nov. the speaker will be Hilary Bracegirdle on The South West Police Heritage Trust. On 12th Dec. the speaker will be Dr Richard Sandover on Reconstructing Dartmoor’s Medieval Landscape. Okehampton U3A Meeting - January 31 

Okehampton of Yesteryear by Mike Wreford Mike who is the author of books on the West Country will entertain us with stories of old Okehampton. He will touch upon the dark and dastardly characters including murderers who inhabited the town’s jails through the years, as well as anecdotes on some of the more amusing members of the community. His talk will be illustrated with memorabilia and photographs We meet at the Ockment Centre, North Street, Okehampton, EX20 1AR at 2.30PM.   Okehampton U3A welcomes new or prospective members, who will receive a warm welcome.   The only requirement is that members are not in full time employment.  Location EX20 1AR
